Description
Nick Grand is the charismatic proprietor of a private nightclub in Cannes. He also performs on the saxophone at the club along with Gaby, a sexy German woman singer and Ferdinand Manchette, an overweight gourmet and wily Cannes police inspector on bass. Gaby and Nick are deeply in love and have been since she arrived mysteriously aboard a palatial yacht which they now live on. Gaby characteristically has never provided an explanation for how she came to possess this sumptuous floating palace nor the expensive red Ferrari parked nearby on the pier. Nor has she pried into Nick's past. Instead they live day to day contently spending most of their time together making music and love without any concern for past or future. This temporary state of bliss abruptly ends when Gaby is almost murdered by a lone gunman of dubious nationality on a motorcycle. It soon unfolds she is actually a German countess - one of her country's wealthiest aristocrats who has been hiding in Cannes because three different ruthless and unknown parties are trying to blackmail or murder her in order to gain control of her vast family fortune. Gaby, in turn, soon discovers Nick Grand carved out a rather colorful personal history as well - he was a former government assassin - one of world's most secretive lethal operatives in a shadowy trade where there are very few survivors. Nick having been one of those fortunate few decided to stop shedding others people's blood in order to fulfill his dream of opening a private club in Cannes and living the carefree life of a dedicated musician. With their cozy little world now brutally shattered Nick has no choice but to return to his old ways in order to save Gaby from her enemies. He goes to Berlin with Gaby and Inspector Manchette where they eventually uncover Gaby's elusive enemies (a spicy mix of ex-Stasi spies; neo-Nazis skinheads; and a notorious assassin) and deals with them one by one by one in an imaginative fashion until none of are left to threaten Gaby and her love affair with Nick Grand.
